The Post 83rd Legislative Session Conference will be held beginning on Sunday, July 7th and end on Monday, July 8th. The conference will include speakers, breakout sessions, and an optional visit to the Texas State Capitol.

A non-partisan high-level analysis of disability-related legislation in the 83rd Texas State Legislative Session by Erin Lawler, a staff member on the Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities.

Assistant General Counsel and Legislative Analyst Ana DeFrates will help identify policy goals, discuss building coalitions, teach how to draft actual legislation, and show how to develop a bill book.

General Session: "Person-Centered Practices" by Jeff Garrison-Tate

An overview of Person-Centered Thinking skills and the process of discovering what is important to and important for a person as it relates to the person living a better life every day.

General Session: "Networking and Advocating in Coalition: Mental Health Advocates in the 83rd Legislative Session" by Clayton Travis, Greg Hansch, and Tanya Lavelle

A critical component of effective advocacy at the state legislature is building and maintaing coaltion with stakeholders and consumers that seek a varied but related set of policy goals. Learn how to best build relationships, organize effectively, and form consensus.
